  • Piano Tuning: Description of Services and Fees

If you're shopping for the best price, make sure that you're comparing TOTAL cost. If you haven't had your piano tuned in a couple of years, it will probably need a "pitch raise". This is a rough tuning done just before the regular tuning, and usually done at the same visit. Many tuners quote you their base price on the phone. If your piano needs a pitch raise, it is often an additional charge of up to half their tuning fee. Some of my competitors charge a total of $160 or more for the neglected piano. (Usually that means over a year since the last tuning). My fee is a flat fee of $110 including the pitch raise, if needed. NOW HERE'S THE BEST PART: Get your piano tuned yearly and it takes less time, so there is a $20 discount! Many piano teachers recommend having it tuned twice per year. I agree with this. When you or your children are developing a musical ear, regular tuning is very important. (If you have good humidity control, one tuning may still be enough).

Tuning means adjusting the string tension, until all the notes and chords sound correct. Repairs are things like sticking keys, notes that don't play at all, etc. Very minor repairs, such as lubricating sticking keys on an upright piano, are usually no charge. I don't "nickel and dime" people to pad the bill. I have made a living for twenty-two years by having a reputation for treating people fairly. About 98% of the pianos that I tune, don't need a follow-up appointment for repairs. If yours does, I'll show you the problem, explain it to you, and give you a no obligation, written estimate. Please feel free to call if you have any questions.
